Question by MsPeanutBrittle: Argh! I’m eating the right amount of calories and I exercise a lot, but I’m still overweight! Help!?
I’m a figure skater, so I do that 5 days a week for at LEAST a half hour per day (sometimes up to an hour 45 min a day), plus I run and do Pilates a few times a week each. I’m 5″1′ and 136 pounds with measurements of 37′, 30′, 37′. I know, I know, the coveted hourglass shape. I admit I like it… But I think I’d rather be skinny and healthier, especially since I have a heart problem (benign cardiac PVCs). I’m not asking to be a twig…just for a flat stomach! Losing 16 pounds would get me at my ideal weight, but I’d be happy just losing 5 for the meantime.
I track my calories on Livestrong’s MyPlate. It says to lose 1.5 pounds/week, I should only take in 1327 calories (net). And I stick to this. I always have a net of 1327 or less. But I’m stuck between 135.2 and 136 pounds! Just last year at this time I was 133 pounds (no idea what my measurements were). And I can’t get past this 135/136 block. Even if I got to 129/130 I’d be freakishly overjoyed. I just started the Special K Challenge today…I’m going to trial run it for a week and see if I lose any weight. If I don’t, I’ll discontinue it. Does anyone have any ideas? How have you/your friends/your family lost weight? How do you stay skinny? Has anyone had any luck with Special K or any kind of fad diet? (I’ve never done a “fad diet”, just controlled my calories, which hasn’t been working so well as I haven’t lost any weight from it.) Could it be some kind of medical issue, that I’m not losing the weight? It’s all basically in my stomach area! I had a blood test about eight months ago that came back normal (even though they didn’t have me fast or anything…is that normal/okay?) Should I get retested?
Help! Also, I’m only a teen, so I can’t really “go to the gym”…we have 2 2 pound, 2 4 pound, and 2 6 pound weights, a medium and large exercise ball, two exercise mats, a treadmill, a MaxiFlex, a StretchRite, and a two-handled resistance band. Tips? Tricks? Ideas? I don’t care how long it takes as long as it happens!

Question by Texas Cutie: Does this sound like a healthy plan?
Any improvements, comments or ideas… please let me know…
I tried “dieting” and that doesn’t work for me… So I am trying more like a guidelines thing, rather than a strict plan. This way everything is more flexible…
1. Food Guidelines
Little to no junk food– Chips, cookies, poptarts, ect… Whatever your weakness is, get it out of the house! (If this is not an option, two words… WILL POWER)
Feel the need for a snack? Fruit, dried fruit, veggies, granola bars, trail mix, popcorn, yogurt, JELLO, sunflower seeds, ECT…
No more soda. Try for water (lots of H2O!), some milk, and fruit juice every now and then.
ALWAYS eat breakfast, or else you will over eat later (guilty feeling, ya, no fun!)
Avoid the extra butter, salt, and sugar.
Eat slower, that way your body can know when it’s full.
2. Exercise Guidelines
Stretch before you work out.
60 minutes of time off your butt, minimum… Aerobics, Basketball, Biking, Dancing, Field Hockey, Hiking, Ice Hockey, Ice Skating, Jumping Rope, Kickball, Kickboxing, Pilates, Power Walking, Running, Soccer, Step Aerobics, Tennis, Track, Volleyball, Yoga… ECT.
You need aerobic/cardio exercise (makes your heart pump) and strength exercise (works your muscles)… try for one every other day
Push yourself, but if you feel dizzy, have trouble breathing, or experience any serious/ out of the ordainary pain while you are exercising, STOP. (yah, I know, DUH)
3. Helpful Hints
Realize spot loss isn’t possible, meaning you won’t lose weight in just your stomach if you only do crunches.
Try not to eat after 8 PM
Don’t stop after you lose the weight, this is a life style choice not a fad diet
Only weigh yourself once a week, keep track of your progress
Chew gum when your hungry, after half an hour if your still hungry… eat a snack
Buy some good work out shoes, ones that will have good support for your feet, this will save you future pain… good investment.
Buy a pair of jeans that is too small (realistically too small, not a 0)… now you have something to work towards… dont want that to be a waste of 30 bucks do you?
Don’t work yourself to death, have at least one (maybe two) days off from the slave drive we call exercise… but don’t pig out on those days either
Realize no one is perfect and tomorrow is a new day…
Have an accountability partner, when you have to hit a fast food place she’ll suggest that grilled chicken salad doesn’t sound half bad…

Question by Kels: why isn’t my eating plan working?
Stats- 16, female, 143 lbs, 5’7″
Im becoming very frustrated.. I have taken to heart all of the healthy advice I’ve read everywhere, and made a conscious lifestyle change long ago instead of going on a “diet”.
I eat about 5 times a day, average around 1800 calories, eat ALL my fruits and veggies, exercise for about an hour everyday with Sunday off..
But I don’t seem to be losing weight! Ive built so many healthy habits, in hopes of losing fat and toning up.. I see people around me going on low carb diets and such to lose weight quickly and it WORKS.. I know it will come back in the long run, but it’s so hard to motivate myself when my weight is not budging and Im supposed to be doing the right thing.
I am not a body-obsessed teenager willing to go to any length to become 90 lbs, I just want to be fit and toned. Maybe lose 10 lbs at most, but more importantly shed fat and inches. Any helpful advice?
Best answer:
Answer by Shell Bell The only thing I can really think of is that your eating too many carbs? If most of your meals are based around carbs it would take longer for you to shed the pounds. And eating 1800 calories a day would also make weight loss a little bit slower putting you at a weight loss of around 1/2 a pound a week. But with the workout everyday if you really are working out an hour 6 days a week that would burn about 1lb a week. So if your not losing 1.5lbs a week, try getting more protein into your diet and lifting weights if your not already to speed up your metabolism. Hang in there, it will be worth it.

Question by vanessa o: question about dieting and loose skin?
I am 27 and I weigh about 150 pounds. I am 5’7″ tall. I want to lose about 20 pounds for an event thats coming up in about a month. So, I have decided to try the “Sacred Hearts Diet”. I am anticipating about a 5 pound a week loss. My question is will loosing 5 pounds a week for 4 weeks cause me to have loose skin? I will be working out at the gym lifting weights about 3 days a week. And walking every day. I am just nervous that l will have loose skin even if I am working out. I realize this isnt the healthiest way to diet, but I am going to try it just to see if I can get into that little dress I have been looking at. So, long story short: If I am working out at the gym, and walking every day, will a 5 pound a week weight loss cause loose skin? Thanks!
Best answer:
Answer by chimerarose You shouldn’t have loose skin if you’re only looking to lose 20 pounds. If you were looking to lose over 50 in a realtively short period of time, then you might. But everyone is different and some people have better skin than others.

Question by Missy: Is there anything wrong with eating healthy every day?
I live with two other girl roomates. All they do is say I eat too healthy and blah blah blah. And “oh you’re so skinny!” I weigh 140 5’6” size ! But I have a heart condition and been diagnosed with malignant hypertension. So my diet consists of Oatmeal, almonds, whole grain breads, veggies, fruits, yogurts, chicken, lean beef, turkey, fish. I eat out on occasion. They think I’m a freak! Its very uncomfortable for me to continue living with them because all they do is point out “are you on a diet?” blah blah. What to do?

Answer by Tambourine Tell them to shut it. Eating healthy everyday should be a law.

Question by ~*~kayla~lynn~marie~*~: Fish oil just for heart?
I have a few friends who take fish oil and they say it’s really good for you. I’ve read that’s it’s good for your cholesterol and heart, but I thought it was good for your hair/nails/skin.
If I’m wrong what vitamin supplements could I take for them? I do need vitamins for my heart, because it’s really funky so I’m gonna continue with the fish oil.
What brands do you think work best? I take Centrum A to Zinc and bought Spring Valley Fish Oil pills.
Thanks for the suggestions. I do know all about “having a healthy balanced diet” and that no pills can take place of that, so please don’t suggest that…
By the way, I hate fish. I dont know why just don’t like it, besides walleye and northern bass.
Best answer:
Answer by BlaznBroccoli fish oil does alot of good things. omega fatty acids are present in fish oil.
it thins your blood too which is good for preventing heart attacks.
it cant possibly hurt you.. unless your allergic to fish or something.
Question by style assimilator: I’m very interested in eating healthier have any diet ideas ?
I’m open to anything but I’m sick of drive-thru heart attacks and microwaveable diabetes. I’m 17 in good shape in health and am not looking to lose weight. I’m open to anything I’ve researched (via google) several “diets” I’m just looking for personal experiece opinon. I’m not vegan or vegetarian opposed although as of now I do eat meat.
Best answer:
Answer by Christy why don’t you just try incorporating something new or different than what you do now. add a healthy snack to your diet or make tuesdays soup and salad day as opposed to greasy burger day.
